Adopt-A-Minefield Campaign
In response to the global landmine crisis, the Adopt-A-Minefield (AAM) Campaign was created by the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) in partnership with the United Nations, Ted Turner’s Better World Fund, and the U.S. State Department to clear minefields, provide assistance to landmine survivors, and raise awareness of the global landmine crisis. The Campaign aims to empower people everywhere to take action against the global landmine crisis–one of the world’s most pervasive problems.
Since its launch in 1999, AAM has become the largest non-governmental funder of Mine Action.
In September of 2002, AAM launched a Survivor Assistance component. Working with partner organizations, AAM seeks to help survivors get the medical attention they need and facilitate their reintegration into society through a variety of services such as job training, scholarships, small business loans, and other programs.
The Campaign seeks national and international sponsors to adopt minefields that the United Nations has identified as being in urgent need of clearance. Sponsors raise funds in their communities to clear their adopted minefields and return land to productive use.
The Adopt-A-Minefield global partners are:
United Nations Association USA
Canadian Landmine Foundation
International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance
No More Landmines
United Nations Development Programme
United Nations Office for Project Services
U.S. Department of State
