No More Landmines
Freeing communities from the legacy of war

No More Landmines helps and empowers communities around the world by removing the threat of landmines and
unexploded weapons. We also provide support for survivors of landmine accidents to enable them to lead fulfilling lives.

Fragments

In May 2008 Fragments will return to London and the exhibition will be running in parallel with the final negotiation for an international ban on Cluster Munitions in Dublin.

Fragments is a series of sculptures by Canadian sculptor Blake and aims to raise awareness of the ongoing damage inflicted on civilians by cluster bombs, landmines and other unexploded weapons of war. The exhibition will be housed in St Ethelburga’s, London – itself victim to a devastating bomb just 15 years ago.

Each of the 19 limited edition quarter-life-sized bronze sculptures has been fragmented to distort the classical human form making it a stunning yet haunting exhibition.

In 2007, the Fragments exhibitions generated funds that cleared land in Vietnam of cluster bombs - 32 years after the war ended, finally allowing communities to live life free from threat. The proceeds from sculpture sales will support the work of No More Landmines as they support communities around the world removing the threat of these unexploded weapons or war.

Cluster munitions pose unacceptable harm to civilians both during and after conflict. Their widespread deployment means they cannot distinguish between military targets and civilians so the humanitarian impact can be extreme. Many bomblets fail to detonate on impact and maim and kill people long after conflict has ended - particularly children who make up over a third of the victims of cluster bombs.

Neil Morrans said ‘It has been a real pleasure to work with an artist who has matched his great artistic talent with his desire to help those whose lives are blighted by this devastating legacy of war. Unexploded weapons kill and injure innocent people every day but Blake’s contribution will make a significant difference to this global crisis.’
