Square Meals For Square Metres
When you think of people living without access to food or water it is often in relation to drought or other natural disasters. And yet every day millions of people are at risk of malnutrition and denied access to safe drinking water due to a man-made legacy of war. Landmines and other unexploded weapons remain in the ground long after conflicts have ended. Many minefields are left unmarked and there is nothing to identify them.
In countries rebuilding themselves after times of conflict, one of the keys to survival is for communities to be able to sustain themselves. But in many areas it is impossible for people to farm their land due to the risk of terrible injury or even death as they try to put food on their families’ table. Square Meals for Square Metres aims to alleviate this problem by providing an easy and enjoyable way for people to raise funds and clear land allowing communities the freedom to help themselves.
How To Save Lives From Your Dining Room
We would like to invite you to take part in our Square Meals for Square Metres Campaign giving you a great and easy opportunity to raise funds to clear land and help landmine survivors. It only costs about £1 to clear a square metre of mine affected land and just £50 to give a child the chance to walk again.
How it Works
The first thing is to hold a dinner or lunch party. There are then many ways that you can raise funds; the easiest is to ask people to make a small donation instead of bringing wine, chocolates or flowers. If you had 10 guests and each donated £5 you would have raised enough to help a child walk again!
